Did you say welcome and goodbye to January 2020. Do you feel like the month flew by and you missed out on what happened at Glendale West Rotary Club? Have no fear because you can catch up here.
January 8th: Anthony Smith, presents on work place leadership.
January 26th: Abby Smith, RYLA Pinerock Award Recipient, presents on her experience. Her advice for next year's recipient, "Get out of your comfort zone. You are only going to get out, what you put into RYLA."
We have had the honor and pleasure of having club members and family participate as RYLA Pinerock Adult Volunteers for years. This camp is hosted over MLK weekend. There is another camp hosted in the spring in Ponderosa near Heber, AZ. There will also be a summer Junior RYLA camp this year for the very first time.
How do I apply as an Adult RYLA 5495 Volunteer?
There are no formal requirements to be an Adult Volunteer. Priority is given to adults who are Rotary members, however that is not mandatory.
Check your personal calendar to insure you will be available to participate in all activities (i.e., Orientation, the entire RYLA conference, etc.)….you will find this information on the front page of RYLA 5495 website.
Enter all the relevant RYLA dates on your personal calendar. If you are not sure you can commit to the times required, please notify the chairperson, registrar, or programs coordinator ASAP.
Complete the online Adult application AND the Health Form. Submitting your completed application and health form online will constitute your signature for these forms. You are not required to submit 'hard copies'. Please make sure to attach a current JPG picture of yourself where indicated (Do not use pictures of you with your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers etc… ) and label with your name.
You will receive an email a week or so after you complete your online application from the District 5495 Youth Protection Officer with directions on how to complete mandatory background check information. You do not need to complete background check information UNTIL you hear from the Protection Officer.
You should receive an email for your records with a copy of both forms.
You will be contacted by the Programs Coordinator to inform you of what volunteer position you have been selected for, and to confirm your availability. We try to make this contact as soon as possible; however there are times where positions cannot be filled until relatively close to the RYLA weekend.
If selected to be a facilitator: You must attend Facilitator Orientation on the date specified in the RYLA Calendar – Timeline. The only exception is if you are a returning Facilitator, you have an emergency, and you have received permission from the Registrar or Program Coordinator to miss Orientation. In order to establish camaraderie among the Facilitators and to lend your expertise to the training session, experienced Facilitators are expected to attend Orientation except in the case of a personal emergency.
Attend RYLA and have the time of your life!
Come and visit us in February or join us for a service project!
