The Rotary Club of
Valley of the Sun Passport
August 15, 2024
* Our speaker last night was our own Ron Williams, speaking about ALEM, a project in Mexico which repairs wheelchairs, using wheelchair-bound mechanics.  Much of their work is mobile, and they're sorely in need of donations for a new van.  Any amount helps.  More information is at https://www.karitasfoundation.org/alem

* At our September 11 meeting, We'll have a program from the Interact students who recently distributed wheelchairs.

* Both of our District Grants have been approved, and we're waiting for the money to come through.  Way to go, folks!  We've leveraged a total of $5000 in District funds to make the world a little better.

* Rebecca, Marco, And Tom H are heading to Guatemala in February with the GLP.  More information at  https://coeduc.org/tours/glp/

* There are opportunities to serve on District-level committees, including peacebuilders which is a focus of our club.  Ali has more information.

* If anyone would like to organize an in-person get-together, please let Marco know.  We're about due for one!

* As always, service projects and events organized by other district 5495 clubs are listed here and in the calendar section of the website.  Please let Rebecca know if you have something to add.
We inducted new member Sharon Brewer last night.  She's an engineer, mediator, toastmaster, Humane Society volunteer and dog trainer.  Please join in warmly welcoming Sharon and helping her learn about what Rotary has to offer!
Patrick, Ali, Marco, and Rebecca enjoyed Sharee's exhibit and some in-person time at the WHAM Gallery in Surprise earlier this month. The exhibit runs through August 30.
From the Prez
Fall is near and we are all settling into the routine for this time of year. Hopefully your summer went well, and was void of sunburn.

The Rotary year is still young, having started just July 1. Our Assistant Governor, Joe Sweeney, is available to help our club flourish for this year and beyond.

Our club's unique structure lets us enjoy ourselves with volunteer work. When we meet, we catch up on what we have been doing and get back out in the world again. Ours is not the most traditional of formats, but it sure seems to work for us. Keep up the great work!
